Apparently, EA sent out a marketing survey regarding Bioware’s upcoming action RPG, Mass Effect: Andromeda, in which people were given a plot synopsis of the game, some details on it, and asked if they were interested in playing. Thanks to Eurogamer, that synopsis has now leaked online. That said, it’s important to not take everything as hard fact.
Surveys like those are often used to judge reactions to potential ideas, which could be changed based on answers, or it may be entirely made up (with no survey ever actually happening). So keep those in mind while you check this out:
Mass Effect: Andromeda takes players to the Andromeda galaxy, far beyond the Milky Way, where players will lead the fight for a new home in hostile territory – where WE are the aliens – opposed by a deadly indigenous race bent on stopping us.
Experience the freedom to traverse and explore a planet-dense but seamless open-world galaxy, rich with discovery. Play as the leader of a squad of military-trained experts in an intense third-person shooter, with deep progression and customisation systems.
This is the story of humanity’s next chapter, and player choices throughout the game will ultimately determine our survival in the Andromeda galaxy.
There is a major battle brewing, and it awaits you. It is unfolding across a galaxy of planets, with creatures and species entirely unknown. Draw your weapon, because the fight is bigger than you thought. It’s not just for your own life, it’s for all humanity, the ultimate battle for a place we can all call home.
Interesting! Personally, I’m loving this idea, and it seems to jive with all we know about the game so far. We know it takes place in an all new galaxy, in a time long after the first three games, in which humans are expanding into a new area. Why? Not sure, perhaps it’s just normal progression or something mroe sinister has happened in the Milky Way. Either way, I’m LOVING the idea of humans being painted as the alien invaders, rather than defenders.
This idea muddies the moral highground a bit and should make for an engaging plot with multiple paths for gamers to choose from. The open-world exploration is something we’ve heard about as well, with the idea being you can travel a map, land on any planet you want and explore at will. There’s also the tease of a “bigger” picture going on, beyond the colonization aspect, meaning there’s a threat which could be even more severe than the Reapers.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see, as Mass Effect: Andromeda has been pushed back into Spring of 2017. Hopefully, though, we’ll get some new information and footage from the game at this year’s E3. In the meantime, what do you guys think about this synopsis? Does this sound interesting to you?
