Dragon Quest fans rejoice! Today, Nintendo adds The Hero to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Before they do, they’ve delivered an overview video so you can get to know each Hero. More within…
Nintendo‘s E3 2019 presentation revealed two new fighters joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, via the Fighters Pass/Challenger Pack 2. One was Banjo & Kazooie (This Fall) and the other was “The Hero” from the Dragon Quest series. Or, should I say “The Heroes”. Both were revealed to much acclaim.
Today, the Heroes if the Dragon Quest series officially join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Their addition will see 4 different heroes from 4 Dragon Quest games, Arusu from Dragon Quest III, Solo from Dragon Quest IV, Eight from Dragon Quest VIII, and Eleven from Dragon Quest XI S join the epic fighting game, and feature some new music to boot.
To celebrate the addition, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Director Masahiro Sakurai took us on an in-depth walkthrough of the character(s) in a brand new gameplay video.
“With the introduction of fan-favorite characters like Hero from the DRAGON QUEST series to the game’s expanding roster, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate continues to assemble the largest cast of iconic video game characters ever,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We love being able to engage Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans through a steady release of exciting downloadable content, and look forward to continuing to expand on players’ game experiences on Nintendo Switch beyond launch.”
Each version of the Hero is equipped with a sword and shield, and wielding familiar Dragon Quest spells like “Frizz,” “Zap” and “Woosh”. However as the video suggests, the design of each weapon and the voice of each character is different for each Hero.
Along with the inclusion of the Hero, the Yggdrasil’s Altar stage, and the addition of Dragon Quest music, Nintendo is also importing a free update that adds an in-game online tourney mode**, a “Very Easy” setting in the single-player Adventure mode and the ability to predict the winner in Spectate mode, among other features.
The Hero is available for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate today via the Challenger Pack 2 and Fighters Pass.
