New Mass Effect Legendary Edition Trailer Shows Amazing Upgrades to Textures, Lighting, & More

In just one month, Electronic Arts will release Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the long-awaited remaster of BioWare‘s iconic trilogy. Just to show how incredible this remaster will look on current and next-gen systems, the developer dropped a new comparison trailer. Suffice to say, it left me having to pick my jaw up from the floor.

While the trailer is a mash-up of stills and different scenes throughout the trilogy, it doesn’t show much of all three games. However, it does achieve what it sets out to do, which is to compare just how different this 9 year old trilogy is.

For instance, all of the characters and environments have new lighting, which allows for new and distinct textures to be revealed. Along with that, combat looks to be much brighter, with enemies being more visible downfield in darker environments. Furthermore, there are new weather effects that were practically non-existent in the original. After seeing this comparison trailer, it’s shocking to think how ahead of its time this series was on a visual standpoint 9 years ago. Compared to now, the Legendary Edition makes the original trilogy look like an Alpha version.

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition will contain all three numbered entries in the Mass Effect series, and the more than 40 pieces of DLC that went with them. That DLC even includes promotional weapons and armor from the original releases, all remastered as well.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition releases on May 14, 2021 on Windows PC, via Origin or Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
