The 2011 hack had the PlayStation Network down for a very long extended time, and users were not thrilled about it. People still talk about it to this day, and the fear is always there when another hack happens. Thankfully beefed up security seems to be doing it’s job.
That being said, Sony still had to go through another class action lawsuit for the event and it just now ended. Thanks to the settlement you can now recieve a free game or free selection of themes. NOTE this is an entirely new settlement, not the same as before with the “welcome back” rewards Sony gave to users when the PSN came back online. The selection includes PS3 and PSP titles.
If you did participate in the Welcome Back program, you are allowed to recieve one free item from this settlement. If you did no participate in the program then you are allowed to recieve two free items categories. Additionally any users that are not current PS Plus members will also recieve a free 30 day trial to go with it.
Other circumstances also come into play, but for the most part you may not fall into those categories. The free games include PlayStation 3: Dead Nation, Infamous, LittleBigPlanet, Super Stardust HD, Rain, Puppeteer, Invizimals: Lost Kingdom, and God of War HD. PSP options include LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, Patapon 3, Killzone Liberation, Wipeout Pure, and Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror.

This hack was seperate from the down time during the holiday break, so try not to get them confused. You can still get a 10 percent discount on the PSN store for that one. Vita users should also not get this confused with the class action lawsuit regarding the Vita advertising, that too is seperate and is still in the final stages. It seems Sony’s legal team has their hands full at the moment!
