Post Launch Plans For Tom Clancy’s The Division

Ubisoft‘s multi-year project, Tom Clancy’s The Division, is finally coming out on March 8th, 2016.  The game’s story mode follows a group of soldiers, known as The Division, as they try to maintain order in New York City after a massive outbreak has killed most of the world’s population.

However, that’s just part of the story.

Today, Ubisoft has announced plans for their post-launch expansions for after the story mode is completed.  They’ll be releasing some free updates that will skew to group oriented missions with unique rewards.  Although, the real meat of the expansions will come from the paid DLC’s or Season Pass.

Upon purchase of the Season Pass, Gamers will be rewarded with a special side-arm that many veterans will be familiar with, the Sawed-off Shotgun.  Along with the shotgun, you’ll also receive exclusive outfits and weapon skins. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though.

Season Pass owners and those who purchase the DLC will receive these expansions:

•       Expansion I: Underground
This first major expansion opens up a new area to players as they explore the uncharted underworld of New York City with up to 4 friends for intense co-op action

•       Expansion II: Survival
In this expansion, players will have to survive as long as possible in a very hostile environment that will challenge even the most talented agents.

•       Expansion III: Last Stand
Stay tuned for more information

I really wish the expansions would’ve been more story-focused.  These almost make the Season Pass not worth the purchase.  Survival is cool but it sounds like firefight in Halo, which is free.  The Underground could have some story elements.  If it doesn’t, I’m not sure what the point would be. Now, the “Last Stand” expansion could be the extended story we’re hoping for.  We’ll just have to be patient and find out as the expansions are released, over the year.

If you can’t wait, though, you can play on the open Beta when it starts January 28th on Xbox One and January 29th on PlayStation 4 and PC.  You can sign up for it here.
