During Sony’s TGS Conference, they revealed that the PS4 will not see a November release date for Japan. In fact it won’t be anywhere close to that, it will instead be releasing on Feb. 22nd.
The slight delay to the Japan market was due to Sony “not having enough titles” just yet for the Japan market. A good majority of the titles announced for PS4 are western based, but Japan will see a total of 19 launch titles.
In order to “make up” for the wait, all Japan PS4 launch day consoles will include a free download of Knack. This is Japan only, so other regions will not see this deal. Special Japan PS4 bundles will also include a standard 1 year warranty.
Being Japan doesn’t really “need” the PS4 just yet, and has nothing prepared, it seems understandable to release it at a later date. However people didn’t seem to thrilled about the delay. I personally think Japan should have been around the same time as NA, but overall it may be a better move. With the dates spread out, it allows Sony to allocate more units to specific regions to cut down on delays. Sony normally dominates Japan, so them targeting NA and EU early is a smart move.
Sony also sent out a press release revealing 19 titles, those titles are listed below. We are currently unsure what exactly the launch titles are for Japan, but these titles will be availible for the PS4 at some point.
