Amazon, Target, Wal-Mart, BestBuy, and GameStop have dropped the price of the device currently. The price of the stand alone unit is sitting at $80, while the controller bundle sits at $100. That is a $20 and $40 price drop for each.
The price seems to just be a current sale though as the official PlayStation site still lists the device at full price, and Sony has made no mention of a price drop coming any time soon. Other retailers do seem to be following along and dropping the price though.
Being that holiday sales are over, it seems the price drop is to help move units. The mini console is supposed to stream games via PS Now and play most Vita titles (with some key ones missing), along with other digital features. The price drop could be to coincide with the upcoming PS Now subscription which should help boost its appeal.
