Back in 2016, Rockstar Games released the first teaser for Red Dead Redemption 2, stirring up emotions with the fandom as they witnessed some gorgeous shots of the environment. Then, in 2017, we were privy to more screenshots that got us even more pumped up for the upcoming sequel (prequel). However, it was late in 2017 that really got fans throwing their money at the screen in futile attempts to get their hands on the game sooner, as Rockstar released this story trailer.
What made gamers so excited is the reason why they’ll be disappointed today. Toward the end of that trailer, Rockstar mentions that the game will release Spring 2018. Today, Rockstar Games has rescinded that release date in order to allow the studio to spend more time on the game.
“We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26 2018,” it said. “We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish.”
The news is a bittersweet one, as most fans were ready to experience the frontier again, but it’s good that the studio realized that the game needed more time before fans could rip into it and ultimately be disappointed by the quality of the game. While many may be disappointed, it’s important to remember that about 92% of the time it’s a good thing for studios to spend more time on an upcoming title.
Rockstar did leave a parting gift, though, in the form of new screenshots! Check them out below!
Red Dead Redemption 2 releases October 26, 2018 on Xbox One and Playstation 4. No word yet on if it’ll release on PC.
