Since its announcement, Square Enix has proclaimed that Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is the version that they wanted to release 10 years ago. Obviously with technology what it was, it wouldn’t have been possible. Today, though, SE has released a trailer showing off Zodiac Age in all its remastered HD glory.
The trailer may not look like much of a difference from the original. However, to those that played it on the PS2 will notice it’s a lot clearer than before. The PS4 definitely hightens a lot of the features, that the PS2 couldn’t. That isn’t to say it looked bad before, it actually was quite striking in its original form.
I actually loved Final Fantasy XII. In my top 5 of favorite FF games it’s 1. VII 2. X 3. VI 4. VIII and 5. XII (IX is #6). The problem is, it never got the recognition it deserved after following up X. It also introduced a new fighting mechanic that people weren’t used to. It scrapped the turn-based formula and transitioned to a more free-form RPG style that we’re now accustomed to. Despite that, the story was beautifully told from start to finish and I adored the characters. I wasn’t a fan of how they used the “Gods, Aeons, what-have-you” but they were still fun to collect.
It’s going to be fun getting to re-live XII when it comes out in 2017. For now, though, check out the trailer and read the synopsis below, if you haven’t played it already.
