Square Enix has finally announced the release dates for Rise of the Tomb Raider for the PC and PS4. On PC, (Steam and Windows 10 to be exact) Square Enix plans on releasing the game Early 2016. However, for PS4 owner, including myself, you’re going to have to wait a lot longer than their XBOX One counterparts.
While XBOX One players will be able to get their hands on the game on November 10th, 2015, thanks to their exclusive rights to the game, PS4 users will have to wait a full year to play the game as it is set to release during the Holiday 2016.
Games being exclusive to certain systems is nothing new. Hence, why XBOX gamers can’t play Uncharted and Playstation gamers can’t play Halo. Furthermore, exclusive earlier console release dates are not uncommon anymore, either. In fact, XBOX gamers will be able to play Madden NFL 16 three days before anyone else. However, that’s just three days. This delay of a year may be one of the longest for a game to be exclusive to one console.
Could this be a positive for PC and Playstation users though? Consider the fact that most games can be buggy upon initial release. These are fixed over the first couple of months with patches. Plus, DLC’s usually don’t come out for another 6 months to a year. So, while XBOX gamers will get to play Rise of the Tomb Raider quicker, PC and Playstation gamers will likely be able to get to play a more complete Rise of the Tomb Raider game sooner than the XBOX gamers will have.
If this is the case, be patient gamers. Rise of the Tomb Raider will be here before you know it and you may be happy you waited. For XBOX gamers, enjoy the early release!
