Rune Factory Comes to the Switch With a Remake and New Entry

RUNE FACTORY!!! I can’t begin to even try and explain my fascination with this weird little franchise. It started, essentially, as a spin-off of the Harvest Moon series, wherein you build up a farm, harvest crops and make friends throughout the town. On top of that, however, you must battle your way through various dungeons (akin to Legend of Zelda), while also befriending other monsters who can help manage your farm or battle alongside you (Pokemon style). On top of all that are some JRPG story elements.

It’s an ecclectic mix of genres that somehow ridiculously addicting. When I try to tell anyone about the games, I get a weird look, but I absolutely love playing them. As such, I’m excited to hear that the series is continuing AND coming to the Switch. The Nintendo Direct revealed a remake of Rune Factory 4 (which originally hit the 3DS) using a trailer to show off its swanky updated graphics:

Classic RPG Rune Factory 4 is being remastered for Nintendo Switch. Interact with townsfolk, grow vegetables and fruit on the farm, catch fish, raise monsters and wield weapons and spells in this new version of the game.

Rune Factory 4 Special will arrive at some point this year on the Switch, but Nintendo Also revealed a brand new entry in the series, Rune Factory 5 is currently in development as well. If you haven’t played this franchise before, I highly recommend checking it out.
