Square Enix Unveils NieR: Automata Black Box Edition

The US premiere of Square Enix and PlatinumGames Nier: Automata is just mere months from debuting.  This past weekend’s Playstation Experience trailer, above, only magnifies the fact that soon we’ll be playing in that mechanized post-apocalyptic hell.  The question is, which edition will you be purchasing?

Today, the Square Enix/PlatinumGames partnership has unveiled two versions of the game for fans to purchase prior or upon release, Day One Edition and Black Box Edition.  Both are loaded with tons of content but only one has the content that will have collectible enthusiasts drooling.

Day One Edition for PlayStation®4 system

●      The NieR: Automata game

●      Reversible box art featuring character illustrations from Akihiko Yoshida

●      Six pieces of exclusive digital content, including: Machine Mask Accessory, Grimoire Weiss Pod, Play System Pod Skin, Retro Grey Pod Skin, Retro Red Pod Skin, and Cardboard Pod Skin

As you can see the content received is drastically different between editions.  However, Square Enix wants to ensure you get what you play for.  While the Day One Edition is the standard $59.99, the Black Box Edition is going for $189.99 on the Square Enix Online Store.

Personally, $189 seems like a lot of money for a video game, even when comparing other collector’s editions.  Granted, you’re getting quite a lot with the game.  The figurine and box alone will be wonderful editions to anyone’s collection.  It just depends on whether or not you feel the near $200 price is worth it, Square Enix seems to think so.

NieR: Automata releases next year on March 7, 2017, exclusively on Playstation 4!
