Frozenbyte has been known for making some pretty unique games, especially with their famed Trine series. Modus Games and Frozenbyte have announced that Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince will be releasing October 8th on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch for $29.99. The Trine Collection was also recently announced to be releasing October 8th with all four games for only $49.99.
The Trine series has always been known for its magically beautiful world and its wonderful co-op gameplay but in Trine 3, Frozenbyte went a different route and switched from their popular 2.5D style to a more 3D centralized game. With this switch and a much shorter story then fans wanted, the future of the series hung in the balance.
In 2015, the company issued a response for fans blaming themselves for the game’s shortcomings. Marketing Manager Kai Tuovinen delivered this statement, ” The issue is that Frozenbyte did not explain Trine 3’s short length – a result of the series switch to 3D. Neither did the developer discuss its decision to leave the game’s story on a cliffhanger ending – a result of the shorter experience.”
Tuovinen went on to say,
“In hindsight, our biggest mistake was that we didn’t let you know we would be splitting the game into different parts or that this would be a shorter game than others in the series.
As head of marketing here, I have to bite the bullet. It’s my fault. It’s pretty much a do or die for us at this point, Back to the drawing board we go.”

As you can see, the future of the game was not looking too bright, but from what we can tell the studio listened to fans, is bringing back the 2.5D game style and will be making Trine 4 the game all fans wanted with the last installment.
