It’s been roughly 12 years since we’ve had any new footage of a Psychonauts video game, making today is a pretty special day. CEO & President of Double Fine Productions Tim Shafer and Project Lead Zak McClendon have recorded off-camera footage of the first playable gameplay for Psychonauts 2! Along with showing the gameplay, they also go behind the scenes during the 14-minute video to show their team hard at work.
While the game is still in alpha, the footage is pretty remarkable. Some of the movement and landscapes are stunning when compared to 2005’s prequel. It’s even more remarkable when you consider how this game came to be. First, it was announced in 2015 during The Game Awards. Then, following that appearance, was crowd-funded using the platform Fig. So, a lot of investors are getting their money’s worth today.
Psychonauts 2 will be a direct sequel to the 2005 game and the Playstation VR title, In the Rhombus of Ruin. It’s set to release sometime in 2018.
