Every time the idea of a Need For Speed movie comes to the table, we see “well we already have Fast and The Furious!” Thankfully, we hope, they got passed that and are actually making the movie! Yep, EA and Dreamworks announced that Dreamworks will be bringing Need For Speed to the big screen finally. The film will be written by John Gatins (Real Steel) and Brothers George (She’s Out Of My League). They stated to have already developed the script and it “doesn’t focus on a specific game.” This is interesting considering the game did have a few good stories, and the central theme of it is basically just Fast and Furious. So it will be interesting how it turns out.
Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is said to be producing it, so that alone is rather promising in my opinion. Along with that, EA will be producing the film alongside Dreamworks, which might be the needed bridge between Hollywood and the Game industry for film adaptations. The film is set to start filming early next year with a 2014 release date. So its still a long ways off, who know its might turn into a Halo movie at one point…..
What will it include?
“The film adaptation will be a fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise. In Need for Speed, the cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story keeps players at the edge of their seat.”
One thing I do hope is that it STAYS focused on the cars. The 70’s churned out a lot of great cars so that is exciting on its own, perhaps we will see some Chevelles? Girls are nice and all, but Fast and the Furious hardly has any racing in it anymore….don’t do that with this one! We want races, we want cars, we want a movie based around it…..
