Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions has all the potential of being a game-changing game for virtual soccer. However, it gets muddled with confusing, frustrating gameplay. Its redeeming qualities stem from the insane, over-the-top way in which goals are made. You truly feel powerful when performing specialty shots. Unfortunately, the story feels very one-note. Even the dramatic moments don't hit the mark like they would in a full-on anime series. Overall, despite it's incredibly powerful abilities, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions has a long way to go to catch up to other soccer games on the market.
