The Last of Us Part II is a masterclass in storytelling. Neil Druckmann and the entire Naughty Dog crew went in a different direction with it and it left me emotionally raw. From start to finish, each situation had my mouth just hanging in shock and stomach in knots. I didn’t expect heroes to die. I had no idea that I’d come to love their murderer. Nor did I imagine that Ellie would come out of all of this seemingly alone and without the ability to use the beautiful gift Joel gave her, the ability to play the guitar.

It’s a beautiful, gritty, tragic, brutal story. One that everyone should experience at least once. It highlights things that are real for everyday people. Things like being LGBTQ+ and the torture of living through trauma. Throughout it all, though, The Last of Us Part II leaves a lasting message that even the darkest of worlds where hate and anguish preside, love still wins.
