After 40 years and 10 movies, Michael Myers is back to terrorize Haddonfield, Ill. once more. His sights set on finding his little sister Laurie Strode and bringing their family “spat” to a final conclusion. Find out if this movie is worth the watch this weekend.

Now we have had Halloween (1978) where we meet Michael Myers. This slasher came around in the late 70’s early 80’s when that type of movie was the most popular thing around. When you thought slasher flick three names came to mind:  Jason, Freddy, and Michael Myers. Between 1981 and 2002 there would be 7 sequels to the original, one of which had absolutely nothing to do with the Myers storyline at all (Halloween III: Season of the Witch).

In 2007 Rob Zombie rebooted the series with Halloween and its 2009 sequel Halloween II where the first film really details Michael's life as a child and what led to him killing his older sister Judith and his mother’s boyfriend. I won’t get into the 2nd movie because that shouldn’t have been made at all.

The 2018 reboot and 11th film in the series pretty much erases everything we have seen over all these years. We now have the original 1978 film and this one where Michael has spent the last 40 years in an Institution for the criminally insane. It is at this point in time that his doctor decides he has learned all he can and that he should be transferred to a Maximum Security prison to spend the rest of his days. That’s right, we’re gonna keep him here for 40 years and this Halloween ... NOW we’ll move him. Of course, you know this is when he escapes. He has to or this is gonna be a really short movie.

Meanwhile, Laurie Strode has been waiting for Michael to return. Laurie has had to deal with failed marriages, a rocky relationship with her daughter, Karen (Judy Greer), and has to communicate with her Grand-daughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak), in secret because Karen doesn’t want her talking to her Crazy Grandma who “tore apart the family” with her paranoia.

This movie has a decent body count in it, I mean before you know it Michael has killed 6 people and that’s just a warm-up for what’s about to come. Quite a few deaths were done off screen or you saw the knife in hand as it plunged down then came back into view with blood on it. Not a big fan of that kind of scenes, I prefer seeing what’s happening to the person as the killer does his thing, but hey not everything can be a big gorefest like it was back in the 80’s.

The real story here was about Laurie and her waiting 40 years for the boogeyman to return just so she could end he torment. Now I have had a big ol’ schoolboy crush on Jamie Lee Curtis for years, yeah even before True Lies (that dance scene was pretty damn awesome though). There was one scene in the movie that took me back to Linda Hamilton in T2. A badass gun-totin' woman who’s ready to go a few rounds with whatever comes her way. As much as this movie is a continuation of a deranged serial killer back for more it’s also about a strong woman, a woman who has gone thru hell and is still standing, still fighting, still dealing with her past.

Overall I enjoyed what I saw in this movie, once Michael starts the killing they keep a pretty good pace going on that part. Add a bunch of teenagers (and some adults) to get butchered and one funny kid whose babysitter is about to become a pin cushion and you’ve got the makings of a decent slasher flick.

Let's get down to the real meat of this movie, this is a film about Laurie and her fight to recover from the horror of what Michael did 40 years ago. On that note, some folks should just avoid this movie altogether.
1. if you only want to see graphic murders by a legendary movie serial killer.
2. Use the word SJW to describe anything with a strong female character.
3. Feel sorry for EVERY man caught up in the #metoo movement.
Just stay home, this movie is not for you. Everyone else … ENJOY!
