That's right folks, today is the official unofficial Star Wars holiday celebrated by fans the world over. So if you hear people gladly shouting "May the 4th be with you," you'll understand why. For several years now this has been celebrated and even Lucasfilm has gotten in on the fun over the years. So imagine the delight when they've made a special announcement pertaining to the impending blu-ray releases on this day.
Star Wars fans can now begin their official countdowns to when they can see the Star Wars saga back on the big screen and in three-dimensions. While the announcement was made a while ago that the films would be re-released in 3D and would be starting with The Phantom Menace. However, we only got the announcement that it would be happening sometime in 2012...well now we know.
If you're a Star Wars nut like me, then you've been eagerly awaiting the announcement from this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES). It was announced a couple weeks ago that Darth Vader himself would be making an appearance at CES, and fanboys around the world became abuzz at the possibilities. However, a recent press invite sent out by Lucasfilm (pictured below) left little doubt as to what the announcement would entail: the Saga on blu-ray.
Part of me feels bad that most of the news we've highlighted this week seemed to focus on the release of new movie trailers. But then the really geeky side of me is exhilarated by all of the sweet new footage we've got. This time of year, we're getting into the Holiday movie season (which is really only second to the Summer season), and with the big movies coming out, that typically means the big movies for the Summer are pumping out trailers to go with them. Thus this weeks trailer madness. Oh well, while the trailers I'm about to show you aren't actually for a movie release, they are no less awesome for it.
Everyone knows (even if you're not a fan) that the ending of The Empire Strike's Back, where Darth Vader reveals that he is in fact Luke Skywalker's father, was one of the biggest twists in movie history. People were just so shocked and fans were left slack-jawed in the movie theaters. Back then it was a tightly held secret and the director Irvin Kershner even went so far as to film an alternate ending, and it wasn't until James Earl Jones did the voice work, was the true ending revealed. Now it seems like all of that was for nothing as David Prowse had already spilled the beans two years previously.
It's no surprise that I'm a massive Star Wars fan. So when I came across this bit of news I was instantly intrigued and have been trying my hardest to find a way to convince my wife to do this with me. Whether you love them or hate them, just about everyone knows the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi. They're the cute little bear like creatures who somehow helped defeat the Empire. The little guys also make their homes in these giant tree forts that hand high in the air. Two people took some inspiration from the idea and created their own Ewok village.
The poplar stop-motion animated comedy on Cartoon Network is preparing for it's third Star Wars themed episode.
