Summer is usually the time of year that most film fans look forward to. However, 2012 will be remebered as a year that generally did not live up to expectations. A large number of big-budget flops, luke warm reviews, fan indifference and a lower than average financial return for the studios has made for a disappointing summer movie season.
It seems like only yesterday we were gearing up for the Summer movie season with our preview guides and high hopes. Now its come to a close, and it's time for us here to take a look back at the films from this Summer. Rather than do a boring old best/worst article like usual, we've decided to host the Summer 2012 Movie Awards. Today is the announcement of our nominees in the various categories. The best part is, you guys get to vote on them as well, and if you do you could win The Avengers on blu-ray!
Reboots are tricky beasts. Occasionally, they can be quite beneficial for a franchise, reinvigorating the staleness with a nice breath of fresh air. But sometimes, they can do the exact opposite. Sometimes, they can ruin a good thing, and tarnish a great franchise. And unfortunately, The Bourne Legacy is THAT kind of reboot.
Yesterday, the first ever screening of The Dark Knight Rises was shown to a group of very, very lucky people. And now, a couple of outlet have scooped up some early thoughts. And what did they think of the film? Well, from what they say, we might just be in for the best Batman film yet.
In general, I would say I'm a pretty big fan of Seth MacFarlane. Well I agree with the consensus at this point that Family Guy is a god awful show, that wasn't always the case; there was once a time when Family Guy was clever, funny, and an overall great show. And even if that one has fallen off the rails lately, I don't really blame MacFarlane for it (rumor has it that even he agrees that the show should have ended years ago). He's still a terrific talent, with one of the best and most versatile voices in Hollywood. So with all this in mind, I went in to Ted with a lot of hope that the film would be good or, at the very least, a good time. Instead, I discovered one of my first big disappointment of Summer 2012.
In preparation of the film's release two weeks from now, WB has released a trio of new posters for The Dark Knight Rises—two for Bane, and one for The Caped Crusader himself.
Fearing the impact of The Dark Knight Rises, Universal pushes back The Bourne Legacy an entire week. Believe it or not, that will actually make it better.
Batman is sorry about the lame one sheet from yesterday—but he brought some cool looking character posters to make up for his mistake!
Honestly, if I was forced to judge Summer 2012 at first glance, I would say it was pretty weak. Compared to 2011 and 2010, there's just not as many movies to look forward to. While it seems easy to write off this Summer as a dud, I have three reasons why it might actually be awesome; The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, and Prometheus. Honestly, that's all Summer 2012 needs in order to be one for the history books. Even then, there's still more than enough films to warrant your attention this summer. To help you sort through them all, we've once again compiled all the most interesting films of the season into four easy to read, informative guides. For the next four days, we'll take you on a journey through the best cinema has to offer in Summer 2012. Welcome to our Summer 2012 Movie Guide!
Today's guide will focus on the month of July, the most scarce of all the months. But you know what? The limited amount of options doesn't matter for one reason, and one reason only; THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Find out what we have to say about the biggest movie of 2012 (along with some other films too!) after the jump.
