Box Office Top 10 February 11-13: Sandler beats the Bieber

It was a close race for the number one spot at the box office, but Adam Sandler's Just Go With It topped Justin Bieber's Never Say Never as the top movie of the weekend. We should all thank Sandler, because had Bieber won the box office derby, it would have signaled the end of the world and the start of the apocalypse, where Bieber reveals to us all the "666" imprinted underneath that helmet of hair.

Box Office Top 10 February 4-6: Roommate moves in at #1

Hot chicks with mental issues proved to be a winning formula, as The Roommate took the number one spot at the box office for Super Bowl weekend, February 4-6, 2011. Winter weather across the country affected overall attendance at theaters, but even so, it as a light weekend for movies compared to last year, when Dear John was tops at the box office with over $30 million in ticket sales, double what Roommate pulled in this year. Even last year's #2 movie for the week, Avatar, earned more then than this year's #1 ($23 million vs. $16 million).

Box Office Top 10 January 28-30: Hopkins scares up another hit

America was in the mood for a little demon possession, as the Anthony Hopkins supernatural thriller The Rite was the top film for the weekend ending January 30, 2011. The weekend's only other major release, The Mechanic, had a major breakdown, managing only a third place finish overall. Meanwhile, Oscar nominations helped boost the box office fortunes of movies like The King's Speech and True Grit.

Box Office Top 10 January 21-23: “Strings” Pulls Out Win

Attendance at theaters (compared to last year) continued to fall, but those who did go took in a Kutcher and Portman rom-com more than any other film. The rest of the top ten pecking order stayed close to last week, while the Golden Globes gave a bit of boost to films like The King's Speech and The Fighter.

Box Office Top 10 January 14-17: Green Hornet Soars

Critics weren't kind, but audiences loved The Green Hornet, as the action comedy topped the competition for the Martin L. King holiday weekend of January 14-17, 2011. The weekend's other new release, The Dilemma, had critical problems of its own, but managed to finish second in the box office race.

Box Office Top 10 January 7-9: True Grit Rides High

It may be cold outside, but the western remained hot for the first full week of January 2011. The Coen Brothers' True Grit climbed to the top of the box office for the weekend of January 7-9, 2011. The only new major release, Nicholas Cage's Season of the Witch, fared reasonably well during a slow weekend, despite reviews already crowning it the worst film of 2011.

Everything old was new again, as sequels and remakes accounted for four of the top five movies for the first weekend of 2011. While snow storms across the country may have hampered attendance at theaters, interest remained strong among current releases.
