The remake of Total Recall is pretty much what you'd expect from your average summer blockbuster. Good amounts of action and cool visuals, not much in terms of great story or satisfying characters. In other words, you don't have to worry about Hollywood trying to play mind games on you to make you forget about the original.
The composition of a score is one of the most important aspects of filmmaking. I would fight you tooth and nail if you disagree with this theory. I've been a fan of film scores for as long as I've remembered, and this column will be devoted to the movie related tracks that have been playing in my mind (and constantly spinning in my iPhone) for the past week. So sit back, relax, and prepare for some awesome music!
This week, we'll be focusing on the first track from the score to the original Total Recall: "The Dream" from composer Jerry Goldsmith.
The new version of 'Total Recall' hits theaters today and although it was a total let down, and completely forgettable, it still might be worth watching. Some movies are better left alone and 'Total Recall' really wasn't one of them. Paul Verhoeven's 1990 film was great for the time, and we all know that Schwarzenegger was one hell of an action hero, but with the advances in technology over the last two decades a good re-imagining of the film could have been great. It could have been great but just isn't.
