This isn’t a joke, thankfully, Battleblock Theater is getting the massive “remaster” update on April 1st.
The Behemoth announced during a Twitch stream that the massive “remaster” update for Battleblock Theater is releasing on April 1st. The update has been scheduled on their long list of roadmap updates posted to their official site, but it was finally playable during the reveal stream.
The update is said to include
Enhanced rendering – no more crunchy compression and much higher resolution!
Lightning fast frame rates, limited only by your monitor’s capability!
Higher audio bitrates for delicious sound!
Various bug fixes, hooray!
Support for more controller types!
More importantly the update also includes the “groundwork” to finally port the game to modern consoles. The game is currently stuck on Xbox 360 and playable via backwards compatibility, but both the update and the game itself will finally bridge to new consoles. This potentially includes the game finally coming to PlayStation. The announcement also suggests “and more” which could signal the game coming to either mobile or streaming services as well.
This also appears to be the last checkpoint on their roadmap, so i’m a bit curious as a fan what gets revealed next.
