An Immersive Horror Sim Legend is Coming to Switch and Switch 2

Yesterday, at DreadXP’s Indie Horror Showcase, we saw Nightdive Studio announce that they would be releasing their remake of the classic sci-fi action horror game System Shock for not only the Switch 2, but the OG Switch as well! This announcement came with a new trailer, narrated as it only ever could have been by SHODAN herself, who is appropriately voiced by her original voice actor, Terri Brosius:

Though the trailer cuts a rapid-fire, action-packed pace, newcomers to System Shock might be surprised to find the deliberateness and complexity of the game in reality. It has long been considered one of the most complete examples of an immersive sim.

The trailer also highlights the Switch-specific updates this release will be receiving, including Joy-Con 2 mouse support and 1080p 60FPS support for Switch 2 owners, and gyro aiming for all. Even better, Nightdive is releasing the games as full game cards on both systems, instead of the oft-maligned Game Key Cards that debuted with the Switch 2 launch.

The original System Shock has a legacy that’s in itself full of smash hits, claiming Deus Ex, BioShock, and the 2017 version of Prey as spiritual successors. If you’ve enjoyed any of those, but never picked up the granddaddy of them all, you’ll soon have even more opportunities to do so.

The System Shock Switch 1/2 release is scheduled for later this year. If you can’t wait, the game is currently available basically everywhere: on Playstation 4&5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Windows via Steam, Epic Games, GOG, and the Humble Store.
