Assassin’s Creed Franchise 2026 Plans Include Black Flag Remake, Netflix Series, PvP Experience

Ubisoft’s new Head of Content for the Assassin’s Creed Franchise Jean Guesdon took a moment to speak to fans about what they can expect through 2026.

Guesdon previously served as Creative Director for Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag — which is worth mentioning particularly because the massive 2026 update also included keyart for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

“Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new, but it’s worth repeating: “Nothing is true. Everything is permitted'” the blogpost from Guesdon says. ‘Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon. 🦜”

The other updates include more on the live-action adaptation series with Netflix, the dark and unique “Codename HEXE” that will be “set in a pivotal moment in history, the PvP Multiplayer Experience known as “Codename INVICTUS” led by For Honor veterans, an update about PvP in Assassin’s Creed games in general, a brief mention about Assassin’s Creed Jade and more.

Codename HEXE

Guesdon shared that he has taken the role of creative director for “Codename HEXE” in addition to his new role as head of content for the franchise. As noted earlier, he previously served as the creative director for Black Flag and Origin.

“While we know we haven’t shared much about this one yet, it’s being built with great care by our veteran team here at Ubisoft Montreal. Expect a unique, darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience, set during a pivotal moment in history,” he writes in the blog post. “We are taking the time to deliver on its ambitious vision, which means we’ll be quiet for a little longer, but we love seeing all the enthusiasm happening on our channels and can’t wait to unveil more when the time is right.”

Codename INVICTUS

The PvP multiplayer experience for Assassin’s Creed, known as “Codename INVICTUS,” is “progressing steadily with a test and learn approach,” Guesdon wrote. A team of For Honor veterans from Ubisoft Montreal are leading the project, which is described as a “new approach” for the franchise.

“We understand there’s a lot of curiosity around this project: yes, it’s a new approach to multiplayer in the franchise, but it isn’t quite what the rumors have suggested. With player feedback at the heart of our approach, we’re exploring ways to bring the community in earlier so we can shape the experience together,” the blog post says. “The team is incredibly passionate about what they’re building, and their work reflects our broader goal of offering a wider variety of experiences within the Assassin’s Creed universe.”

He notes that “several other projects [are] currently in the works, all at different stages of development, including Assassin’s Creed Jade.”

“We’re also looking into bringing co‑op back to Assassin’s Creed — a detail we know didn’t go unnoticed. And while we recently chose to pivot away from an early project, the lessons from that work are already helping shape our approach going forward,” the blog post says.  “What matters most to us is giving each project the time it deserves and releasing them when they are ready.”

Netflix ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Series

More news will be coming “very soon” for the live-action series coming from Netflix, which was first revealed back in 2020.

“Yes, it’s been long in the making, but Assassin’s Creed is taking the leap to a live-action series! You may have seen news about the cast lately, and we can’t wait for you to discover more,” Guesdon wrote. “Something tells us you won’t have to wait very long. 👀”

Roberto Patino (DMZ, Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming, The Killing) will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers, Netflix said in an article published in January.

The casting news also included Tanzyn Crawford (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Tiny Beautiful Things) joins Laura Marcus (Bad Education, Death By Lightning), Zachary Hart (Slow Horses, Black Doves Season 2), Lola Petticrew (Say Nothing, Tuesday), and Toby Wallace (Euphoria Season 3, The Society) all revealed as “the first series regulars set to explore the world of Assassin’s Creed.”

“When we first announced our partnership with Ubisoft in 2020, we set out with an ambitious goal to bring the rich, expansive world of Assassin’s Creed to life in bold new ways,” said Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s Vice President, Scripted Series, said in the article. “Now, after years of dedicated collaboration, it’s inspiring to see just how far that vision has come. Guided by the deft hands of Roberto Patino and David Wiener, the team has carefully crafted an epic adventure that both honors the legacy of the Assassin’s Creed franchise and invites longtime fans and newcomers alike to experience the thrill of the Brotherhood as never before.”

Additional executive producers include Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O’Toole.

The logline, as revealed by Netflix: “Assassin’s Creed is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”

Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Ahead of Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ first birthday, Ubisoft will hold a special livestream on March 20 to talk more about the latest update, reveal winners of the Parkour Challenge, giveaways, drops and more. The livetream will begin at 10 a.m. PST/Noon CST.

“As we reach this milestone, Shadows will be moving into its final phase of support,” the blog post says. “We’re winding things down with smaller, less frequent updates… but still a few surprises! At the same time, our teams will begin shifting more focus toward what’s next for Assassin’s Creed.”

Continued Support on Old Titles

Guesdon notes that “continuing to support our older games matters to us.” As an example, Ubisoft revealed a free 60 FPS patch for Assassin’s Creed Unity for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 that will release on Thursday, March 5.

“We know how much those titles mean to many of you, and that they’re often the first entry point for new players discovering the franchise,” he added. “We know some of you have been waiting for it for a long time, so get ready to re‑experience 18 century Paris and Arno’s fancy parkour moves with more smoothness on consoles! And for our Xbox players out there, we’ve got a little treat, as multiple Assassin’s Creed games will be playable for free for a limited time for Xbox Free Play Days, from April 2 to 6! Perfect time to try Unity in that 60 FPS beauty.”
