Despite having a staunch following, ArcSys and Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball FighterZ has largely fallen by the wayside, replaced in receiving regular updates by the latest battler in the larger anime franchise, Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero. Even that game has been fairly quiet on the update front, however, making yesterday’s announcement of a new balance patch and upcoming tournament for the 2.5D fighter all the more surprising. What’s even more exciting is the fact that next year will see the release of a new character, even, as Goku joins the cast for the sixth time in his Super Saiyan 4 form from Dragon Ball Daima! You check check out the trailer that reveals all of these things on YouTube, or just right here:
The new Goku will almost certainly be awesome, but just the fact that Bandai Namco has decided to continue supporting the FighterZ community after all this time is the big news of the moment. A fighting game lives and dies entirely by the number of people playing, and a game without updates rapidly becomes a “solved” one that limits the number of viable options. If this update comes with the promise of more, then we could almost certainly see a resurgence in the game’s popularity in the months to come!
