Felt That: Boxing – A Punch-Filled Paradise for Proponents of Puppetry

There’s always a lot to get excited for during Summer Game Fest, but in between all the biggest hype moments is often where the real gems can be found. This year was no exception, as nestled into a rapid-fire presentation game trailers came this wonderfully wacky premise. The Felt That: Boxing trailer is a strange yet hilarious time that simply must be experienced, whether you’re doing so on YouTube or by clicking through right here to watch it with me:

That’s right, gamer, your senses are not deceiving you. Sans Strings Studio, a complete unknown in the industry, is coming out of the corner with a haymaker of a concept – a boxing game, heavily inspired by the classic Punch-Out!!, but the entire cast are a bunch of puppets. I love it.

Details are pretty scarce on what all this game will entail. Seeing as the trailer was entirely in-engine, we could be looking at in-game footage or merely cutscenes here. Regardless, if some of the UI elements and prompts are to be believed, we will be doing minigames to train our plucky underdog, Ezra “Fuzz-E” Wright, from a petite puppet to a punching powerhouse in order to engage in behind-the-back-view boxing bouts much like the NES OG boxing game. In between, there’s drama, jokes, and of course, lots more puppets!

Felt That: Boxing is currently in development, but is slated for a 2025 release. As of now, the only platform it is expected to be released on is PC via Steam.
