Masters of Albion is Real and It’s Coming Out This Year, I Guess

If you’re familiar with the video games industry at all, you’ve likely heard of Peter Molyneux. A legendary, if infamous, creator in his own right, Molyneux is perhaps best known in recent(ish) years for the Fable franchise, a fantasy action RPG series that prioritizes the choices its players make. That’s the claim, at least, for Molyneux is also known for talking a big game and making promises that rarely turn out to come to fruition. Molyneux’s actual most recent forays into the gaming sphere have been nothing short of disasters, with both Godus and Godus Wars being pulled from Steam stores after failing to deliver what was promised as a result of their crowdfunding efforts, and Legacy being inextricably tied to blockchain and NFT nonsense.

Considering that this latest release, Masters of Albion, appears to be taking a number of design cues from Legacy, concern for additional blockchain and NFT nonsense is healthy, but as far as we can see, there’s none present in this. You can check out the trailer and see for yourself:

The game looks like something of a return to form to Molyneux’s original claim to fame, the “god game” genre with Black & White. Molyneux had a lot to say about the game, but Molyneux always has a lot to say about his games so instead we’ll focus on the actual advertised mechanics. Players will be able to build, create and customize their towns and villages, manipulate the “God Hand” to move buildings and objects and summon weather patterns and take over individual NPCs to control, freely experience the world through multiple perspectives, all in the effort of building proper fortifications to defend against the monsters that come during nightfall.

Look, I’ll admit, it seems pretty cool. But everything Peter Molyneux makes sounds cool when he’s pitching it. We’ll simply have to see what happens when it releases. But hey, this is supposedly Molyneux’s last game before retirement, so maybe we won’t have to do this song and dance again after this.

Masters of Albion releases on April 22, 2026, exclusively on Steam.
