May the Light be With You: Bungie Reveals Star Wars Themed Destiny 2 Expansion

A few ups and downs hasn’t yet stopped the juggernaut that is Destiny 2, as Bungie keeps rolling out update after update to the MMO shooter sensation! Just today, the first major update in the game’s Year of Prophecy season, known as Ash & Iron, has rolled out, taking characters back to old locations like the Plaguelands for new Fireteam Ops and other activities. Even more exciting, though, was the announcement of the next Destiny 2 expansion: Renegades. This expansion is heavily featured as being inspired by none other than one of the most iconic sci-fi franchises of all time, none other than Star Wars itself!

To celebrate this upcoming release, Bungie has released a 10-minute ViDoc “Infiltrating the Lawless Frontier” which showcases much of the new content housed within the expansion. Most notable is the new game mode, Lawless Frontier, where players will go on solo or team-based expeditions across six new maps within three new planets, each inspired by classic Star Wars locations. Also included in this expansion are the newest weapon class, Blasters, an energy-based option with a unique heat management system. And, of course, no Star Wars crossover would be complete without a lightsaber.

All in all, the expansion looks to be trying to catch a very particular set of Star Wars vibes: the “space western.” It’s less Luke Skywalker, and more Boba Fett. The fact that they chose not to include full-on crossover content, however, admittedly gives some of these concepts and locales a very “we have Star Wars at home” feel, but for fans of the game eager for new maps and weapons, what better new weapons can you get than lightsabers and blasters?

Destiny 2: Renegades launches on December 2, 2025 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 4&5, and Windows PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store.
