As the days crawl closer to release, Dotemu and Auroch Digital continue to drip feed more information about their latest retro action shooter with a classic franchise tie-in, Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! The first trailer showed off some of the madcap action the game seems to promise, but their latest offering instead gives us a fresh look at the game’s playable character, Major Sammy Dietz, portrayed here in live action opposite the legendary Casper Van Dien’s Johnny Rico by Charlotta Mohlin:
It’s a teaser in every way: it’s short, it’s to the point, and it leaves you wanting a little more. That said, seeing Van Dien take such an active role in promoting these games is great to see, and the actors appear to be having a great time in production, which is usually a good sign.
True to its style, the teaser also mentions an additional “Gameplay Briefing Trailer” coming soon. From the sounds of it, it means we’ll be getting a more in-depth look at what the game actually plays like. So far the brief glimpses have shown frantic FPS action with a retro low-poly aesthetic, but the short vehicle section shown in this latest trailer hint that the gameplay could be more in-depth than the old-school Doom-style “boomer shooter” fare that Auroch gave us most recently in Boltgun.
Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! does not have a specific release date yet, all trailers still point to an early 2026 release.
