During the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Bandai Namco revealed the first new entry in the Katamari Damacy series in 14 years: Once Upon a Katamari.
I honestly can’t believe it’s been 14 years since the last, fully new Katamari Damacy game. While the remakes/remasters have helped keep the series alive, it’s nice to know something brand new is on the way, with a fun historical twist:
The mighty King of All Cosmos has accidentally destroyed the Earth and stars once again. To help the Prince restore the starry sky, players must roll their Katamari across time itself, collecting objects through history as they visit the Jurassic Period, the Ice Age, historic Japan and more.
In Once Upon A KATAMARI, players will experience the series’ signature game play like never before, experiencing a journey across time featuring all-new stages, and with a new competitive multiplayer mode. The game’s memorable music returns with a new soundtrack, and game play enhancements include new customization options and fun tools such as a new magnet to pull in shiny nearby items. Players can choose to play as The Prince or 68 cousins and kin, all of whom can be customized with different colors and facial features. These customization options will be available in KatamariBall, a new four-player competitive mode where players attempt to roll the katamari as big as possible and exchange it for points within a limited time. KatamariBall will support both online multiplayer and offline play against CPU opponents.
Once Upon a Katamari is set to hit Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PCs on October 24, 2025.
