There’s a funny thing about portals. Sometimes you walk into one and what comes out the other side isn’t quite you anymore. It seems that’s what happened to 1047 Games’ latest offering, as Splitgate 2, a game that was released into open beta earlier this year and then quietly unlaunched after much criticism and controversy surrounding the game’s quality and comments from CEO Ian Proulx, has now returned, this time under a new name – SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded.
The new title appears to be hearkening back to the glory days of the first Splitgate, promising a return to its community-focused roots. This announcement came with a new trailer, too, which you can watch here:
It seems like 1047 is truly trying to get back into the good graces of the gamers with this offering, heavily re-emphasizing the parts of the game that made the original Splitgate so well-loved. Whether or not they’ll be able to win back the hearts and minds of their community is still up in the air, but between the earlier than projected launch date and the changes displayed so far, it seems like a step in the right direction, at least.
SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded launches free to play on December 17, 2025 and will be available on Playstation 4 & 5, XBox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows.

Read on for a more detailed breakdown of what to expect in the new launch, per 1047 Games:
“Splitgate has always been a love letter to the arena shooters we grew up playing,” said 1047 Games Design Director Josh Watson. “We’ve been hard at work rebuilding the game from the ground up, taking the best of Splitgate 1 and Splitgate 2, removing what didn’t work, and refining what did.” Watson, previously the Game Director for Epic Games’ Rocket League, joined 1047 Games shortly after Splitgate 2 entered beta earlier this year.
1047 Games has spent the year incorporating community feedback, conducting regular public playtests of experimental builds, and transparently sharing results with players. “The community led us back to the arena,” said 1047 CEO Ian Proulx.
SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded reimagines everything from core combat to UI, removes factions and abilities, and delivers player-requested options that honor the original Splitgate arena DNA, including an even-starts mode without customizable weapon loadouts.
SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded promises more than just refinements. Some highlights the team at 1047 did for the launch include:
-
Removed Factions, Abilities, and select equipment to refocus on classic arena combat
-
Rebuilt progression from the ground up and overhauled the Ranked system
-
Introduced 5 new, and 6 fully-reworked maps, 3 new Primary Weapons and 1 new Power Weapon: the Railgun
-
New Arena modes, playlist selection, and a true Classic Arena mode with even starts and powerups
-
Reduced store prices, simplified the Battle Pass, and improved overall cosmetic quality
-
And more to be revealed in the coming weeks…
