Valve announced the Steam hardware family is expanding in 2026.
The publisher announced the news today, revealing three new pieces of hardware: the Steam Controller, the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. All three will release next years.
The Steam Controller will be compatible with all games, even those not initially built for it, Valve said in the announcement video. It will also include the control features from Steam Deck, including the dual trackpads, haptics, gyro, and more.
It will have a 35-hour battery life, and will feature a wireless controller that also acts as a wireless receiver for devices that run Steam or Steam Link.
Steam Machine
Valve also dropped its biggest reveal: the Steam Machine. The company described it as a “powerful gaming PC in a small but mighty package,” noting it is six times more powerful than a Steam Deck.
It will run on a custom AMD GPU, enabling 4K visuals and 60 fps. It will include some features from the Steam Deck, including the easy to upgrade storage using an SD card. Valve also noted that, ultimately, Steam Machine is a PC “so run whatever software you want.”
The light on the console is customizable, as well and the video showed a person replacing the faceplate with a fun design, so the console will be easily customizable in some capacity.
Steam Frame
Valve also revealed its next-generation VR hardware: the Steam Frame. The headset is wireless and will use camera-based tracking. The controllers also include a split gamepad layout to be compatible “with your whole Steam library.”
You’ll be able to download and play games directly to the headset without needing a “host PC.” Storage will be able to be expanded using an SD card.
Steam Machine release date
The Steam Machine and other new hardware are all expected to launch in 2026.
How much will the Steam Machine cost?
Valve did not release a price point for the Steam Machine, Steam Frame or the Steam Controller.
