During EVO Vegas 2025, SEGA delivered not only the red meat fans have been asking for, but with a little salt and pepper on top. Not only were we treated to the first in-game look at the latest Virtua Fighter project in action, we were also given a release date for the latest iteration, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage!
This release of Virtua Fighter 5 includes such features as cross-play, rollback netcode support, and a new “World Stage” single-player mode. The sign-ups are also available now for World Stage‘s closed beta test, happening in early September.
The real treat, however, has got to be the latest footage from the so-called “New VIRTUA FIGHTER Project.” In the quiet, hi-tech training stage, we see the series veteran Akira squaring off against Stella, the newcomer for what I’m assuming will eventually be officially titled Virtua Fighter 6:
While a lot of this looks similar to the original footage we got to see during the 2024 Game Awards, the animations and grounded fluency of the martial arts continue to display the niche that this series is quickly becoming the master of. The video teases more details to come during Tokyo Game Show, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for the father of 3D fighters!
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage will be released October 30, 2025 for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with an unannounced future release for Nintendo Switch 2. PC players via Steam will be given a free update to their existing copies of R.E.V.O. or will be able to purchase the upgraded version on the same day.
The “New VIRTUA FIGHTER Project” does not yet have a projected release window or target platforms.
