If you’re hyped for Silksong, well it appears you are not alone! All e-shops across the gaming world seemingly went down upon release.
That’s right, Silksong did a lot of things right, and it seems to be working miles better than expected. Releasing today at just $20, fans rushed to their favorite e-shop to buy the game and found out, well, they couldn’t entirely do that.
Steam, PlayStation Network, Xbox, and Nintendo e-shops all were experiencing errors for hours upon release, which caused many fans some havoc. Steam down detector estimates the traffic jam lasted from about 7AM through 10AM, nearly 3 hours of fans going crazy! Based on brief charts, it appears Xbox and PlayStation saw similar spikes, though those seem to have been sorted out rather quickly.
Some fans turned their eyes towards Xbox GamePass, allowing fans to stream the game from the service while they waited for their carts to load elsewhere.
What led to the outage? Well Silksong has been highly anticipated by fans of the series for a long time, and the final release is unreal to many. However even with such anticipation for the game, the developers didn’t want a pre-order option or pre-load option. That meant every person excited for the game rushed to buy and download it at once, and servers clearly had trouble handling both.
It’s worth noting that several smaller releases have caused similar issues, such as Deltarune and Sons of the Forest.
The Steam charts show that over 530k people rushed to the game, and at the time of writing this nearly 500k players are still in the game. Remember this is Steam alone, so other platforms likely saw similar numbers.
Fans expressed their meme’s on X, but have still shown excitement none the less.
Is crashing every digital storefront available upon release a bad thing? From the perspective of the developers, probably not! Let us know, are you enjoying the game?
