When Metroid Prime 4 was first announced by Nintendo we were still at E3…..
Yes it has been that long, nearly a decade ago, Nintendo announced Metroid Prime 4 and carried on with nearly no release date until today. You won’t have to wait long, the release date is set for December 4th, later this year (2025).
The series last main game, the 3rd installment, was released on the Wii. During E3, yes E3, in 2017 the 4th installment was announced, then things kind of crumbled from there. Two years into development, Nintendo stripped the game from Bandai Namco and gave it to a new studio. Then 5 years after that the game got re-announced during a 2024 showcase. During this years April showcase for the Switch 2 the game then re appeared, but then we heard nothing about it after wards, leading fans to worry something else had happened. And now during today’s Nintendo Direct event, we finally got the December release date. So whew, we can breath!
Along with the release news comes a new gameplay mechanic called the Vi-O-La, a “technologically advanced” motorbike that Samus will be using in the larger open world areas.
Also good news is the game will also be a cross generational title, meaning it will release for Switch and Switch 2.
