2025 Isn’t Over Yet. Here Are Some Of The Most Exciting Games Releasing This Holiday Season.

The Fall season for video games is always stacked, with a little bit for every game to enjoy. Our team takes a look ahead to what they’re most excited to play through the end of 2025!

Just as we did with the movie side of things, today, we’re taking a look at the upcoming video games releasing in the last part of 2025. From classic franchises to long-awaited sequels, and everything in between, there’s a whole lot to look forward to.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Katy: As a lifelong Pokémon fan, there isn’t a game I won’t buy. It’s just true. I am stoked to get my hands on the latest in the Legends series after loving Legends: Arceus despite its performance flaws on the  Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 gave Violet/Scarlet new life for me and I’m have a good feeling I’ll be lost in Legends: Z-A when it releases this week.

Jordan: It’s Pokémon! Not sure I need much more justification than that. Although, I will say the previous Legends title (Arceus) was among my favorites in the long running franchise. I loved seeing what it added/changed to the formula, and Z-A looks to be taking that even further.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A releases on October 16.

Plants Vs Zombies: Replanted

Dustin: I got the platinum trophy on this game after years of playing it, and I had to bring out my PS3 to get it. Then they go announce a slightly revamped version? Of course I’ll be playing it. I’m curious if the same strategies from the first game work the same, or if there will be some added complexity to achieve the platinum again.

S0leb: Plants Vs. ZOMBIES was one of the first games I reviewed / covered when starting a career in gaming journalism and it has always had a special place in my heart. With a price of only $19.99, New content and modes, and better gameplay and visual presentation than ever before, who would wanna play this?

Plants Vs Zombies: Replanted releases on October 23.

The Outer Worlds 2

S0leb: This upcoming release is poised to be Obsidian’s most ambitious and expansive title yet! Players can expect an abundance of thrilling antics, captivating narratives, and a diverse array of planets to discover. Each location promises to be rich with unique adventures, characters, and mysteries waiting to be unraveled.

Katy: I loved the humor, universe and gameplay in the The Outer Worlds when it launched in 2019 so much that I’ve gone back to replay and beat it a few times. When we learned the sequel would be launching in October earlier this year (and got a new look at it in June at Summer Game Fest) I gave it another play through that firmly cemented my excitement. Luckily, we don’t have to wait much longer!

The Outerworlds 2 releases on October 29.

Kirby Air Riders

Jordan: To be honest, I wasn’t all that woohoo on Kirby Air Riders when it was first announced. That insanely long Nintendo Direct focused on it, however, brought me around. Beyond the fun looking gameplay and surprising amount of depth, the sheer amount of obvious care and attention being put into the title is enough to pique my interest. Curious to see how that love translates into the gameplay.

Kirby Air Riders releases on November 20.

Ninja Gaiden 4

Becky: I’ll be honest, I never beat Ninja Gaiden 3. But the original two games were a big part of my younger gaming days, and struggling to master some of those bosses was a challenge that I enjoyed rising to meet, and I’d love to experience that again. Furthermore, so many action games are falling back on tried-and-true recent trends in the industry by being Soulslikes, so an actual competitor in the space that carves its own niche feels like something long overdue.

Ninja Gaiden 4 releases on October 21.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Ryan Z: I await this one with a heavy heart, because the original VTMB remains to this day one of my favorite video games of all time, and every bit of footage I have seen of this long-awaited sequel makes me think that it’s not going to be like its beloved predecessor in any way, shape, or form. Even so, the approach it’s taking as some sort of vampiric immersive sim has me intrigued enough to indulge my silly nostalgia and take a real bite out of this one when it drops.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 releases on October 21.

Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition

Jordan: Yes, I know it’s not technically a “new” game, but any time I can play a great RTS game on my console (in this case it’s finally coming to the PlayStation 5), I’m pretty happy. While console versions of RTS games have always been hit or miss (lotta misses there), I love seeing them make the jump. It allows one of my favorite genres to be more accessible for people, especially those without the greatest PC setup. Eager to see how this one stacks up!

Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition releases on November 4.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Becky: I’m a relative latecomer to the Metroid series but I’ve experienced enough to know that the Metroid Prime series continuing with a new installment is a really big deal. Everything about Metroid Prime 4 looks incredible and I hope this is the start of many things to come for the Metroid series.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond releases on December 4.

Double Dragon Revive

Jordan: When I was younger, the first console I had was the NES, handed down to me by some relatives who’d made the jump to the SNES. We didn’t have much money and I only had a handful of games that I would end up playing constantly (years). Among them was Double Dragon II. I’ve been obsessed with the franchise ever since—even digging the old cartoon and cheesy live-action film. It’s been great to see the series see something of a revival in recent years and I’m eager to see if Revive can keep the good times rolling.

Double Dragon Revive releases on October 22.

Tales of Xillia Remastered

Becky: I’ve been circling around the ‘Tales of’ series for a while and seeing older titles getting remastered is exciting because that gives me the chance to try out older entries in the series. Tales of Xillia looks exciting, especially when I compared the new graphics to the old.

Tales of Xillia Remastered releases on October 31.

King of Meat

S0leb: This game is an absolute delight, packed with exhilarating modes, innovative gameplay mechanics, stunning visuals, and a whirlwind of hilarious moments. And the best part? It’s only $29.99! You won’t have to break the bank to dive into the wild world of King of Meat and share unforgettable laughs with your friends. It’s easily one of our top gaming experiences of the year, and we can’t recommend it enough!

King of Meat releases on October 7.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment

Becky: All I really had to hear was that this game lets us play out the legendary Imprisoning War and I was completely sold. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity blew me away with its hack n slash style combined with Breath of the Wild style graphics. I’m excited to see this continue in Age of Imprisonment.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment releases on November 6.

2XKO

Ryan Z: This one’s also kind of cheating since I’ve been playing the Closed Beta and Early Access, but Riot has stated the official release of the game will be some time in 2025! 2XKO is a stylish (and free to play!) 2D fighter with some novel approaches that may just be what the Fighting Game Community needs to introduce new blood beyond its insular walls.

2XKO releases later this year.

Octopath Traveler 0

Becky: A turn based JRPG that’s a prequel to one of the better video game series released in the last twenty years? Say less, I’m already sold. I wasn’t expecting the next entry to be a prequel, but Octopath Traveler 0 sounds like it shouldn’t be missed.

Octopath Traveler 0 releases on December 4.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Ryan Z: I love Marvel comics. I love beat ‘em ups. My favorite game growing up was Maximum Carnage. This has Spider-Man and Venom. How could it have ever not been on my list? Simplifications aside, I’ve been loving the demo so far and can only imagine the full experience will be even greater.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion releases later this year.

Terminator 2D: No Fate

Jordan: I don’t really have many deep thoughts on this one; it just looks ridiculously cool. I’m always a sucker for old-school 2D style gameplay, especially when it looks so sleek and impressive. Combine that with being able to play through the story of one of the greatest action films of all time (with some new stuff added), and what’s not to love?

Terminator 2D: No Fate releases on November 26.
