Ubisoft Cancels Six Games, And Delays Seven Other Titles

Ubisoft has decided to do a portfolia reset and with the broad announcement comes 6 canceled games and several delayed releases.

Ubisoft has decided to “refocus its portfolio, reallocate resources and comprehensively revise its roadmap over the next three years,” it said in a recent release. Ubisoft has noted that will further shift focus back into the “exceptional open world quality” segment and “step change” the teams back into the games as a service native experiences.

With that being said, Ubisoft canceld six projects that they felt did not meet the enhanced quality, as well as being more selective in projects they work on. One of the canceled projects includes Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which has recently been hinted at as using AI generative content. Along with this game, 4 additional games were canceled which included 3 new IP’s and one mobile title. The 6th game is currently unknown.

Seven other games were also delayed, including an un announced title that is heavily hinted as being Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, after a recent refiling of the PEGI rating, being delayed from 2026 to 2027.

The team behind Prince of Persia posted on social:

“To the Prince of Persia community, We want to share this with you directly,” the message reads. “We’ve made the difficult decision to stop development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. We know this is deeply disappointing. The game carries enormous meaning for fans and for the teams who worked on it.

“While the project had real potential, we weren’t able to reach the level of quality you deserve, and continuing would have required more time and investment than we could responsibly commit. And, we didn’t want to release something that fell short of what The Sands of Time represents.”

The post continues on their social channel.

The game was initially delayed when the first trailer was not met with much fanfare at all. The new release date was then set in a general window of sometime before March of this year. So we were apparently rather close to seeing the game before it was abruptly canceled for good.

In one instance it sucks to see, but in another instance if the use of AI was true then it is a blessing. Ubisoft refocusing on quality over quantity seems like a good thing in the current environment. With AI tools allowing tons of slop to hit digital markets, and subpar games getting buried, it makes sense to elevate your releases to be noticed and to create a better image for the company.
