Can we use anything without an AI assistant forcing its way into our data? Well not on Xbox.
During a GDC talk, AI partner group product manager Sonali Yadav and gaming AI general manager Haiyan Zhang, announced that Copilot will be “making its way to more services that players are playing.” Currently Copilot is already available in beta form for Xbox on PC, mobile, and the ROG Ally.
Features for Copilot include asking it for advice or information about the game you’re currently playing, or asking for suggestions on games to find within the Xbox store, or Game Pass. Copilot can also read your profile data including your play history, achievements, and subscriptions to make more informed decisions for you.
Another feature that is slowly rolling out, currently only available on the Xbox ROG Ally, is the highlight reel feature. The option is available on select games where Copilot will automatically capture content from games and put together a reel of your best moments at the end of your gaming session.
Microsoft also noted they are putting together a program to allow copilot to “scrape” data from games to use for better development. This is entirely an option by developers and not intended to replace creators.
During GDC Microsoft also revealed work on their next console is titled Project Helix, and while no details are out just yet we can assume that AI will be an even bigger part of the console itself. Adding to the speculation is the new CEO of Xbox being Asha Sharma, who was part of the AI branch at Microsoft before heading to Xbox.
Microsoft doesn’t seem to be backing down from their AI push, putting Copilot in nearly every product they offer and expanding to other products when able to. I don’t think we will be escaping the AI anytime soon, and it will be interesting to see how Xbox is utilized for this push.
