With 2025 officially over, our team is looking ahead to the films we’re most excited about in the New Year!
It’s hard to believe, but we’re already staring down the barrel of a New Year. 2025 was an interesting year for movies. There were plenty of good and bad movies, along with a few surprises, but today is all about the future!
We’ve tasked our team with breaking down the films they’re most excited to see in 2026. The movies are organized in order of release date.
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die
In theaters February 13, 2026.
Ryan Z: The trailer for this one looks like a crazy good time, and I’ve got enough Major Tentpole Franchise movies on this list already. A crazy man from the future leading the revolution against Artificial Intelligence? I can’t get enough of weird stuff like this in my fiction so sign me up.
The Bride!
In theaters March 6, 2026.
Becky: As this is a modern take on The Bride of Frankenstein, and I am a sucker for all things Frankenstein, naturally I am looking forward to this film. What intrigues me is that The Bride! strikes me as the The Bride of Frankenstein meets Bonnie and Clyde. I really just want to see how far they’re willing to go with this story.
Project Hail Mary
In theaters March 20, 2026.
Jordan: Andy Weir’s Sci-Fi stories are always a fun time, and the adaptation of his early novel, The Martian, is absolutely fantastic. Throw in Ryan Gosling to the mix with the directing duo of Lord & Miller and there’s a lot to be excited about. Plus, the trailers have been damn impressive.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
In theaters April 3, 2026.
Becky: I was already excited for this movie just on principle. But when it was revealed this was The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and that the story would be visiting other worlds, my excitement went to another level. Really excited to see Bowser Jr. and Rosalina added to the story. Also really hoping we get Yoshi based on what was teased at the end of the first film.
The Mandalorian and Grogu
In theaters May 22, 2026.
Jordan: We haven’t had a Star Wars movie on the big screen since 2019. While it’s definitely not the longest I’ve waited for one, the numerous false starts over the years on Star Wars films has made this wait feel more noticeable. The Mandalorian has helped fill that gap on Disney+ (and yes, I did enjoy all the seasons), so I’m hoping it manages to make that jump to the big screen without feeling too much like a TV movie. At the very least, it’ll be nice to see big lasers and space fighting in theaters once more.
Ryan Z: I am a (mostly) unashamed Star Wars megafan. This is the next major Star Wars movie. Therefore, I will be there. Unfortunately this is not really up for discussion.
Mortal Kombat II
In theaters May 8, 2026.
Becky: Dare I say it, but Mortal Kombat II looks like it improved on the formula established by the first film. I wasn’t initially thrilled with Karl Urban being cast as Johnny Cage but it looks, so far, like he understands the assignment. Bring on more Mortal Kombat!
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
In theaters June 26, 2026.
Ryan Z: James Gunn has been blowing me away with his work in the newly established DCU. This will be the first project to have a director and screenwriter not named James Gunn, so it will be very fun to see what other creators can do under his vision.
Katy: I loved the peek we got of Kara in the latest Superman film immensely. This, on top of the impending Gods and Monsters arc of the rejuvenated DC Studios? I’m all in.
The Odyssey
In theaters July 17, 2026.
Jordan: It’s a new Christopher Nolan film! Even better, it’s not some military/historical flick! We’ve seen Nolan do some fun things with Sci-Fi, so I’m eager to see how he handles all the fantastical elements of the iconic story of Odysseus. With a stacked cast and the promise of some epic action, this has the potential to rock the Summer.
Katy: Although I am a tad sad that we’re going to get Christopher Nolan’s take on The Odyssey before The Iliad, there’s nothing that can stop my excitement for this film. As a fan (and literal student) of classical antiquity, I’ll be curious to see how he translates the epic poem to the big screen (and if we’ll get the full story in just one film, or if we’ll see it broken up into two or a few films). Fans of the Hades games may be chuffed to see who is part of the story, including some of the famous gods and goddesses of Greek mythology along with characters like Circe, the Sirens, and Charybdis.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
In theaters July 31, 2026.
Ryan Z: Spider-Man has always been one of my favorite superheroes, and getting to see him reimagined over and over on my TV screen has yet to get old. I’m interested to see this Spidey handle more ‘street level’ issues, according to Feige and the director, and what that will look like in a world that’s gone as crazy as the MCU’s has.
Coyote vs Acme

In theaters August 28, 2026.
Becky: Part of me can’t believe we actually saved this film, the rest of me is beyond excited to finally see this story on the big screen. Coyote vs Acme has sounded great from the beginning, and I’m looking forward to laughing my head off from beginning to end.
Clayface
In theaters September 11, 2026.
Ryan Z: Another DCU entry, the story of its production thus far has been just fraught enough with rewrites and shifting directorial duties that I’m a bit wary, even while still holding on hope for something special. A superhero horror film has still yet to be done particularly well, but a horrible shapeshifting monster like Clayface could be the perfect lead to make one of these work.
Resident Evil
In theaters September 18, 2026
Ryan Z: Zach Cregger (Weapons) was tapped to write and direct this, which seems to me like enough to put it on my radar but I’d love to see more info before I dive in completely.
Dune: Part Three
In theaters December 18, 2026.
Jordan: Considering there was a time when it wasn’t a sure thing we’d ever get Dune: Part II, it’s still blowing my mind we’re getting (essentially) Dune Messiah on the big screen. Denis Villenueve has done a phenomenal job with adapting my all time favorite novel and I’m eager to see how he translates this next part of Paul’s story. Honestly, if I only got to see one film next year, this is the one I’d pick. I’m THAT excited for it.
Becky: I’m so excited that Denis Villeneuve is adapting Dune: Messiah and giving Paul’s story a proper ending. At the same time, I’m sad that he won’t be going any further because if anyone could adapt Children of Dune or God Emperor of Dune, it would be him. However, I will take what I can get, and I’m excited to see Paul stuck in his role as Emperor of the Known Universe, something he does not want and tried to avoid in the second film until he had no choice.
Avengers: Doomsday
In theaters December 18, 2026.
Ryan Z: This one also kind of feels like it goes without saying as a comic geek. This movie has been hyped by its producers just as much as it’s been getting crapped on by naysayers online, but I don’t really care how rancid the discourse is, I can’t wait to see what the hell they actually try to do with everybody.
Jordan: It’s hard not to be excited about this one. Even though it feels like so much of it is some layer of nostalgia-bait, I’m eager to see how they pull this one off. I grew up with the original X-Men films and never expected I’d see that cast back in action. I’ve also enjoyed the latest Marvel films (Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts* were incredible) and excited to see those relative newcomers interact with these legacy characters.
