The official trailer for A24’s The Death of Robin Hood is out and you may never look at the character the same way again.
There have been many films made on the subject of Robin Hood over the decades, and dare I say it, A24 has found a new way to tell the story.
The Death of Robin Hood stars Hugh Jackman as the titular outlaw, but this isn’t the Robin Hood you know. By the looks of the trailer, the story seems determined to deconstruct the legend of Robin Hood and they’re not pulling any punches.
See for yourself in the video below:
There have been brutal renditions of Robin Hood done before (Russell Crowe’s Robin Hood comes to mind), but I don’t know that many films have gone the route of “older Robin Hood” as this one is. Most Robin Hood films play out a variation of the traditional story and leave it at that. This film appears to be leaping beyond that completely, trying to present a Robin who is more “real” than anyone probably wants to admit.
I’m intrigued by this idea. I like stories that deconstruct the story you think you know. And Hugh Jackman has rarely let me down.
The Death of Robin Hood is coming soon to theaters. Will you be watching?
