Warner Bros. has dropped the first official trailer for Dune: Part 3, offering a glimpse at our return to Arrakis and Paul’s latest journey.
Following the debut of a bunch of character posters yesterday (and one very telling image from Chalamet himself for those who know the book), today brings our first trailer for Denis Villenueve’s return to Arrakis.
This is a pretty gorgeous trailer. We get to see a hint of how things have changed in the 17 years that have passed since the events of Part 2, along with a shift in tone. There’s definitely more of a thriller vibe to this, as we see Paul struggle with the war he instigated and the many people allying to bring him down.
While based on Dune Messiah—and fans will easily be able to spot the numerous references to the original novel—it’s clear they’re taking a slightly different approach to the story. For one, Jessica isn’t in that book at all, plus some previously announced casting (which they didn’t show off in this trailer).
As such, I’m curious to see how they fold up these different elements of the story, especially as they’re billing it as the “Epic Conclusion.” Considering it marks the end of Paul’s specific journey, perhaps that’s the angle they’ll go with and we’ll still—hopefully—get to see some of the other novels explored on the big screen too.
Either way, I’m seated!
Directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Villeneuve and Brian K.
