The DC Universe continues to chug along as James Gunn announced the title (and release date) for the follow-up to Superman!
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a new Superman movie and The Batman: Part II are launching in the same year. That was originally the plan when Superman (then Superman: Legacy) was first announced with it’s 2025 release date, but since then The Batman sequel has seen a couple of big delays, pushing it to October 2027. But that means fans have another chance at seeing both of these heroes on the big screen in the same year.
Today, with an unexpected social media post, James Gunn announced Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters on July 9, 2027. Along with the announcement Gunn posted some artwork featuring the Man of Steel and his arch enemy Lex Luthor sporting his iconic green and purple mech suit.

Meanwhile, James Corenswet (Superman) and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) made their own social media posts about the release date, while featuring similar (but different) artwork:

Sure seems like Supes and Luthor are going to end up working together in some capacity this time around to take on whatever new threat shows up (Brainiac?). But knowing Luthor, any kind of alliance would be temporary at best. Isabella Merced (Hawkgirl) reposted the announcements, meaning she’ll most likely be back for the sequel along with the other main cast members…possibly with some new DC heroes as well.
It’s kind of refreshing to see a movie get a sequel within just a couple years, and thrilling that the new DCU seems to be off to a very good start and coming together nicely. Next up for the Super-family, is Supergirl hitting on June 26, 2026 which will be followed by Clayface (now filming) on September 11, 2026.
Who do you hope to see as the main villain in Man of Tomorrow?
