Spider-Man Brand New Day Trailer Is Full of Easter Eggs, Check Them Out Here

Did you miss the internet exploding earlier today? Well we got you covered, and thanks to watching the new Spider-Man Brand New Day trailer over 100 times, we discovered a lot of easter eggs.

First thing is first, check out the trailer:

Next let’s discuss what the movie is potentially about. Brand New Day is actually a rather lengthy story arc in the Spider-Man comics world that follows shortly after the Marvel Civil War arc. During Civil War, Spidey went ahead and revealed his identity thanks to some pushing by Tony Stark to meet a new government policy on superhero identities. The next early arc was actually titled “One More Day” where the decision ended up backfiring on Spider-Man, creating havoc for all his loved ones as enemies started attacking them instead of him, which caused the death of Aunt May. So he needed a solution.

In the comics Spidey then comes across Mephisto to make a deal where he has to reverse his marriage to MJ so they no longer have their baby, Mayday, and reset the timeline from a certain point where everyone forgets he is Spider-Man. This is when the Brand New Day arc begins as Spider-Man learns a bit more about isolation and learning who he is as a person, having given up everything to save someone he loved.

Where the movie veers off is with the ties with the MCU in films. Key aspects are met like Spider-Man revealing his identity, but he did it for different reasons. He also lives in a world that was essentially erased of the memory of Spider-Man, but this was due to Doctor Strange, and doesn’t have any ties to Mayday.

From the trailer it appears that Brand New Day is actually intertwining at least 2 different story arcs, possibly 3, into one story. We can see Peter Parker slowly dressing in more black, along with a quick shot of potentially a symbiote suit. However there are also multiple other hints of potentially some form of Doppelganger Spider-Man, the six arms arc where Spidey loses control of his powers, after trying to get rid of his powers and basically turns into a real spider. Pushing this theory is also the fact The Punisher and The Hand are showcased heavily in the trailer, and during this arc in the comics, the Punisher acts as a bounty hunter to take him out.

It’s also worth noting that this potentially could push Banner to go into Hulk form again. In the comics, Hulk remembers Spider-Man while Banner didn’t, and in the movies Peter has only encountered them when Banner was in Hulk form.

Now for the Easter Eggs:

-Sheila Rivera (Daredevil spoiler) is handing him the key to the city, as mayor. If you haven’t watched the new Daredevil series then you probably don’t know why that’s so important. Key hint, in the show, Kingpin (Fisk) is the mayor and she works with him.

-Paul flirting with M.J. In the comics when MJ is no longer with Peter, she gets with this dude that nobody(objectively) likes. Well, he arrived.

-Peter awakes in a cocoon after asking what is wrong with him. It’s natural looking spider web and not synthetic looking like his webs, but when he reaches out to get through it, his left hand appears to be covered in black goo, like a symbiote.

-In the next shot of him falling out of the cocoon, his hand is no longer black. This could be two different situations that were pulled together to trick us, but interesting none-the-less.

-When Peter falls from the cocoon, he attempts to web sling to save himself. Nothing happens. He begins to accept he is falling and looking for a way to save himself, but then you hear a “thwip” and his arm is holding on to a web. He looks up, somewhat surprised at what just occurred. Was it the fact he didn’t need a web shooter? Or did someone/something save him?

-Banner appears to be taking the role of Dr. Conner away. Similar to how Doctor Strange substituted Mephisto in the previous movie, when something strange starts happening to Peter he reaches out to Banner for help. Which appears to be scanning his suit and finding a “cure” for whatever it is. (It’s worth noting that Punisher also says something along the lines of “you’re losing it kid” suggesting he potentially knows the situation too). In the comics, after Peter’s powers start acting up he goes to Dr. Conner for a serem to fix it.

-A water drop rings Peter’s head. Perhaps with Peter taking on this new power his sense of hearing is even more superpowered, making sounds unbearable. It’s common knowledge the symbiote doesn’t like high pitched sounds either. However, during this scene, Peter once again has his web shooters on his wrists….

-There is a shot of a mysterious character being restrained in a chair, in a make shift dorm room, surrounded by what appears to be some type of weapon to mitigate her powers that are stationed all around the roof. We get a really quick close up shot of her hands and apparently this looks very similar to Sadie Sink’s hands. We still don’t know exactly what character she is playing. Rumors lead to Jean Grey as she has signed on for multiple MCU movies.

-However later in the trailer we see a moment where there seems to be an invisible like character jumping between the minds of other characters. They turn their head upward before the scene jumps outward. While Jean can indeed use telekinetic powers, she isn’t known for jumping between bodies like this so quickly. The character that is known for this is actually her daughter, Rachel Summers, who is known for a power move known as Chrono-Skimming.

-However we do see Peter visit his Aunt May at a grave, acknowledging her death, and if it’s similar to the comics he could be meeting Mephisto after all to make the deal with the devil. Mephisto was technically introduced in another part of the MCU, and also has similar powers to body jump.

-A quick shot of someone in Peter’s apartment. This shot is of someone with a jacket and gloves on, but different than the green jumpsuit of the earlier scene with the isolated dorm. Two things are apparent with this quick glance. 1 Earlier we saw the same apartment and it was covered in webs, and now it isn’t, potentially showing it’s earlier in the movie. 2 The way this person is approaching the room is more sinister and outgoing in nature, it doesn’t fit Jean’s character (entirely my opinion). It fits more along the lines of Typhoid Mary, a general lead assassin with The Hand, or even possibly Black Cat.

-Cool secondary villain looks. We obviously get a good look of Scorpion finally returning, 9 years later. However there is potentially clue that the voice over is that of Tombstone. We also get a quick shot of Boomerang (in the header image above). And another quick shot of Tarantula fighting on the side of a building.

-Both those scenes are pulled almost straight out of a panel of their respective comics, and it starts a cool montage of playing homage to scenes from comics. We get Spidey saving a person while swinging, which is the cover of the first appearance of Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy, often recreated with Stan Lee. Another one is, again the image of above, when Spidey is swinging and recreates the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #300 and #301.

-On the roof there seems to be some confusion. A lot of people are assuming Spidey is getting a grasp of his new powers and trying to web-sling again, failing and tumbling off the roof. However, to me, it looks like something is pulling him instead.

-Spidey’s dark eyes. There is a clear shot of his eyes turning black, but earlier in the trailer there is a quick shot of them also turning red. This could hint at either two things. Again the Doppelganger arc and him losing himself to the spider. Or it could be a clue that Mephisto is playing tricks.

And of course the trailer ends with a “friendly neighborhood” joke that makes even Peter choke up a bit. Of course Spider-Man comics have various different sub names, especially during the clone saga arc’s where Spider-Man branched out into many different series including Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, and just Spider-Man etc all while Amazing Spider-Man continued to run.

About the movie:

After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way HomeSpider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.
