Summer is winding down and Gamescom is on the horizon, but there’s plenty of movie and gaming news you may have missed this week. Let’s catch up!

‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’ First Look at The Guild

Ahead of its “world premiere” teased for Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, we got a little taste of what’s coming in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Or, at least, a look at The Guild.

The seventh installment of the Black Ops sub-series in the Call of Duty franchise was confirmed for in June, and we’ll get a deeper look in the coming days when opening Night Live kicks off on Tuesday, August 19.

‘Fairyland’ Official Trailer’

Produced by Oscar® winner Sofia Coppola (Writing, Original Screenplay, Lost in Translation, 2003) and based on the acclaimed memoir of the same name by Alysia Abbott, Fairyland is a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of San Francisco’s vibrant cultural scene in the 1970s and ’80s. This captivating film chronicles a father and daughter relationship as it evolves through an era of bohemian decadence to the sober and heartbreaking era of the AIDS crisis.

Fairyland hits theaters on October 10th.

First Poster (and Release Date) For ‘Vicious’

First Trailer for ‘Dead of Winter’

Hit by a blizzard, a grief-stricken loner (Emma Thompson) gets lost among backroads near a Minnesotan lake and stops for help at a remote cabin in the woods. Here she discovers a young woman (Laurel Marsden) kidnapped by a desperate couple (Judy Greer, Marc Menchaca) who are armed and intent on murder. Isolated and without cell service, this unlikely hero realizes she is the woman’s only hope of survival.

Dead of Winter hits theaters on September 26th.

Marvel’s Thunderbolts* Comes to Disney+ Soon

First ‘Krypto’ Animated Short Released

The Breakout star from DC Studios’ Superman, the Superman Family’s canine companion will star in his very own original animated shorts, kicking off with Part 1 – Krypto Saves the Day!: School Bus Scuffle. Episode 2 – Krypto Saves the Day!: Halloween Havoc, Episode 3 – Krypto Saves the Day!: Package Pandemonium, and Part 4 – Krypto Saves the Day!: Coastal Catastrophe, will debut individually through 2026.

‘Romantics Anonymous’ Gets Release Date and Teaser Trailer

Netflix’s romcom series Romantics Anonymou got a first look teaser trailer and a release date: October 16.

The first-look teaser trailer introduces Sosuke Fujiwara (Shun Oguri), heir to a major confectionery company, who has a fear of germs and can’t bear touching anyone. Opposite him is Hana (Han Hyo-joo), a gifted chocolatier who creates their best-selling desserts. Due to her extreme fear of eye contact, she works as an anonymous chocolatier for the popular and exquisite chocolate shop, Le Sauveur. 

When Sosuke becomes the new head of Le Sauveur, he decides to revamp operations and meet with the equally anxious Hana. To their surprise, she finds herself able to look Sosuke in the eyes, while he doesn’t recoil from touching her. What follows is a charming, slow-burn exploration of their day-to-day interactions, as the two gradually and sweetly begin to grow close to each other.

‘Upload’ Series Finale Gets Trailer

Amazon Prime released the trailer ahead of Upload‘s four-part season finale on August 25.

The sci-fi comedy series comes from writer Greg Daniels (The Office, Parks and Recreation, King of the Hill) and is set in a technologically advanced future where holographic phones, self-driving vehicles, AI assistance, and 3D food printers are the norm. And, forget about dying – instead, you’ll be “uploaded” to a virtual reality afterlife, and enjoy all the comforts of a world-class resort. Provided you can afford it.

‘The Girlfriend’ Official Trailer

Amazon Prime dropped the official trailer for the upcoming original series, based on the Michelle Frances novel of the same name, ahead of its September 10 streaming date.

The Girlfriend follows Laura (Wright), a woman who seemingly has it all: a glittering career, a loving husband, and her precious son, Daniel. Her perfect life begins to unravel when Daniel brings home Cherry (Cooke), a girlfriend who changes everything. After a tense introduction, Laura becomes convinced Cherry is hiding something. Is she a manipulative social climber, or is Laura just paranoid? The truth is a matter of perspective.

‘Jurassic World’ Meets Microsoft Flight Simulator

We got another look at the upcoming addition to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: Jurassic World: Archipelago.
