Bryan Cogman Will Serve as Showrunner on New Zorro Disney+ Series

One of the Game of Thrones writers has been tapped to write, and showrun, a new take on the iconic hero, Zorro for Disney+

Despite being among the earliest “superheroes” around, Zorro has had a tough time getting new stories as of late. Thankfully, that seems to be changing as Deadline reports Bryan Cogman (who wrote for all eight seasons on Game of Thrones) has been picked up to write, showrun, and executive produce the upcoming Zorro series for Disney+.

The series has been in the works since 2021, and is set to star Wilmer Valderrama (who is also on board as executive producer). The show will put the focus on Diego De La Vega who takes on the mantle of Zorro, during the late 1700s to early 1800s in the (still Spanish controlled) California. The new series will obviously keep the basics intact but will serve as a re-imagining for the icon to make it fresh for new audiences.

All I know, is that I love Zorro and am thrilled to see a new project finally making some progress. Between the historical aspects and diversity, there’s a lot of great stories still to be told with the character. Let’s just hope the addition of Cogman gets things moving a bit quicker.
