Dune: Prophecy Adds New Cast as Season 2 Begins Filming

Production on the second season of HBO’s Dune live-action series is finally underway, and they’ve revealed three new cast members joining the show.

Fans eager to see how the dangling story threads of Dune: Prophecy’s first season come together, take heart! We’re one step closer to seeing it play out on the screen as cameras are officially rolling, as announced by WB/HBO:

Production has commenced on the eight-episode second season of HBO Original drama series DUNE: PROPHECY, from showrunner Alison Schapker. Filming is taking place in Hungary, Jordan, and Spain. Season one received four Emmy nominations this year.

From the expansive universe of “Dune,” created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, DUNE: PROPHECY follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled order that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.

I’m glad to see we’re getting eight episodes this time around instead of six (a result of the various strikes happening at the time of the first season’s production). While I loved the season, generally speaking, I think the shorter episode count held it back a bit. So hopefully this will help resolve those lingering issues.

On top of the returning cast (Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha, Barbara Marten, and Tessa Bonham Jones), three new faces have been revealed for the show.

Indira Varma (Game of Thrones, Obi-Wan Kenobi), Ashley Walters (Adolescence), and Tom Hollander (The White Lotus). No word just yet and who they’ll be playing, but considering the previous season ended with the Emperor’s house in disarray, the Bene Gesserit dealing with an upcoming civil war, and more secrets to uncover on Arrakis…there’s no shortage of new characters they could be playing. Possibly even some that fans of the Legends of Dune/Schools of Dune novels would recognize.

No word yet on release timing, but hopefully we’ll see Dune: Prophecy season 2 in 2026.
