Fresh off the heels of the official start of the DC Universe’s Gods and Monsters slate under James Gunn and Peter Safran, and in the midst of San Diego Comic-Con, we’re getting a better look at what’s to come.
Gunn took to social media to share some exciting news as SDCC kicked off on Thursday, including that the hit show Peacemaker, starring John Cena, will return for Season 2 on August 21 on HBO Max.
The news was first revealed in the Official Peacemaker Podcast, but he shared the keyart for the second season in a separate post on Friday where he said “the story of Superman and the DCU continues.”

He also shared the full mural honoring the History of Metahumans in the DCU adorning the Hall of Justice in Superman.

He also teased out that “exciting things are coming this weekend at #SDCC,” including photos of Gunn with Cena in costume as Peacemaker, along with Michael Ian Black who plays Cleavis Thornwaite, the pundit who hosts “The Sphere” in Superman.

We saw a quick cameo with Peacemaker in the recently released film as he blustered about Superman on Thornwaite’s couch, so this particular team up at SDCC isn’t a huge shock.
There will be more news to come as SDCC continues through Sunday, July 27.
