New Lord of the Rings Survival Game Wants You to Return to Moria

During the Epic Games Summer Showcase, a brand new Lord of the Rings game was revealed; a survival-crafting game set in the heart of Moria!

After a bit of a dry spell, it looks like The Lord of The Rings is finally getting back in the groove for gaming. With Gollum set to launch (at last) this September, a new mobile game from EA on the way, and now, Return to Moria.

The survival game, which puts you in the role of dwarves attempting to reclaim the iconic homeland, got an announcement trailer at the Epic Games Summer Showcase earlier today:

The Lord of the Rings Return to Moria is the only survival crafting game set in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, in the iconic fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien.

“Summoned to the Misty Mountains by Lord Gimli Lockbearer, players take control of a company of Dwarves tasked to reclaim the lost spoils from the Dwarven homeland of Moria–known as Khazad-dûm or Dwarrowdelf–in the depths below their very feet. Their quest will require fortitude, delving deep into the Mines of Moria to recover its treasures.”

The game takes place in the Dwarven realm of Moria and has procedurally generated worlds so “no two adventures are alike,” the developers said. The game is playable solo or in co-op.

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is set to launch at some point in 2023.
