Robocop: Rogue City Delivers The Justice and Prosperity We Deserve | Review

In the year 1987, a highly innovative and revolutionary film was released, named RoboCop. Directed by Paul Verhoeven and produced by Jon Davison, the film takes place in a dystopian Detroit, where the city is plagued by crime and corruption.

A police officer named Alex Murphy, played by Peter Weller, is brutally murdered by a gang of criminals. However, he is brought back to life as a cyborg with enhanced abilities to fight crime, and he takes on the name RoboCop.

This film was a major success, both critically and commercially, and it went on to become a cult classic with multiple sequels, a reboot in 2014, and now a game. Can Robocop: Rogue City breathe life back into this 37-year-old movie series? Let’s Find Out…

A Classic Hero Has Returned

RoboCop: Rogue City takes place in a dark and gritty version of Detroit, where corruption and crime run rampant. The game is set after the events of the second film and has been designed to bring back all the nostalgic and corny feelings that fans loved about the original movie.

In this game, you play as RoboCop, the most badass cop of all time. You are called to action when the city is facing an unprecedented crime wave. Police officers are disappearing, and a dangerous street drug called Nuke is spreading like wildfire. To make matters worse, a notorious crime lord has arrived in the city with plans to take down everyone in his way.

The game provides a semi-open-world environment that allows players to explore the vast and intricately designed world. It features all the iconic landmarks and locations from the original film, which gives players a chance to relive the classic movie experience. Players can easily immerse themselves in the game’s dark crime-filled world because of how well it sticks with the classic action-based feel of the films.

It manages to capture the essence of the original RoboCop movies, which were known for their gritty, dark, and violent scenes. The story is well-written and engaging, with plenty of twists and turns to keep players on their toes. A significant reason for this success is the return of Peter Weller as RoboCop.

His iconic portrayal of the character sets the tone for the game, and his voice acting brings an emotional (or non-emotional) feel to the character that is unmatched by anyone else who has tried to fill his shoes. Weller’s return is a significant selling point for the game, and it adds a layer of authenticity that fans of the original movies will appreciate.

As a devoted fan of the RoboCop franchise, I was overjoyed when I played Rogue City and heard RoboCop speak some of his most memorable lines from the films. In particular, when he said “Dead or Alive, You’re Coming with Me” it was a nostalgic blast from the past that brought a huge smile to my face. I understand that younger gamers may not fully appreciate the significance of this phrase, but for me, it was a reminder of my childhood love for the original RoboCop movie.

What impressed me most about Rogue City was the way it captured the essence of RoboCop’s character. Throughout the game, players experience what it’s like to be Alex Murphy, the man inside the machine. The game delves deep into RoboCop’s emotional state, his internal struggle to reconcile his humanity with his cyborg nature, and his yearning for his lost connection with his family. With the added drama and plot twist in the game, this attention to cinematic detail made the game feel like a true continuation of the RoboCop saga, and I found myself fully immersed in the story.

Blood, Gore, Violence, and Justice

This game boasted a truly remarkable graphical presentation that left a lasting impression on me. The developers spared no expense in utilizing the power of Unreal Engine 5 to create a game world that was both visually stunning and incredibly detailed. As I walked through the streets of Detroit, I was struck by the game’s ability to seamlessly blend photorealistic graphics with its unique art style.

The textures were so rich and detailed that I could almost feel the roughness of the pavement under my feet. The lighting effects were equally impressive, with shadows casting themselves realistically across the game world. What blew me away, though, was the attention to detail. Every corner I turned revealed new surprises, whether it was the intricate graffiti on a wall or the reflection of a neon sign in a puddle on the ground.

The game world felt alive and vibrant, with each element of the environment working together to create an immersive experience. Overall, the graphical presentation of this game was an absolute masterpiece, full of amazing details that made it feel like a living, breathing world.

One aspect of Rogue City’s gameplay that caught me off guard was the level of violence portrayed in the game. While I was aware that the world of Rogue City was a violent one, based on what I’d seen in the films, it was quite different to see it unfold on my screen while I was in control of the amount of violence taking place.

The game’s depiction of violence was extreme, ranging from blood splatters and headshots to the removal of limbs after throwing characters. Explosions were also a common occurrence, and they were often powerful enough to kill multiple characters in one go. The sheer intensity of the violence depicted in the game was enough to make my brain go into overdrive with adrenaline, leaving me feeling both exhilarated and a little bit shaken at the same time.

Despite the high level of violence in the gameplay, I must admit that the controls and overall gameplay were impressively smooth. The task of controlling a character like RoboCop is undoubtedly challenging, yet Teyon executed it with finesse, resulting in an authentic and engaging experience for the player.

The game mechanics were well-designed, with a seamless transition between different actions and movements. The controls were intuitive and responsive, allowing for precise and effortless movements in the game. The game’s UI was also well-structured, making it easy for players to navigate through menus and customize settings according to their preferences.

Teyon’s experience in developing games like Terminator: Resistance was evident in every aspect of the game, from the stunning graphics to the sound effects and gameplay. The game’s first-person shooter perspective was executed with precision, making it feel like the player was right in the middle of the action.

I would say that Teyon has done an excellent job in creating a game that is both engaging and authentic. The attention to detail in the game’s design and mechanics is commendable, and it is evident that the team put in a lot of effort to make the first-person shooter game feel right at home.

Without a doubt, RoboCop: Rogue City is an exceptional experience that truly excels due to its nostalgia factor. This is not a soft relaunch or a change in the origin story, but rather a continuation of an already fantastic narrative. The game features classic film characters, incredible gameplay, and absolutely breathtaking graphics that pay the ultimate homage to fans. As a matter of fact, I couldn’t have loved it more!
